As a rule of thumb, the smaller the space the higher the wattage capacity of the panel needed.
Let’s assume you want to have a 5kvA system installed: This means that the inverter capacity is 5kVA.
Again, let’s assume the space to place the panels is small, in that case, we need higher capacity solar panels, which could be 600W, 570W, 450W, 420W, 410W, and 380W.
Remember, 5KVA is equal to 5000W.
So, to determine the number of panels, you can easily divide the inverter capacity by the wattage of the panels available.
Therefore, if you are considering using 600W panels, the roughly estimated number required should be:
5000/600 = 8.333, which is 8
If you are considering using a 450W panel, then the roughly estimated number required should be:
5000/450 = 11.111, which is 11
Please note: In real engineering design there are lots of factors that determine the final or exact number of panels to use.
